Biotechnology Days: Students present their course of study online

"Biotechnology goes Future" - this is the motto of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg's Biotechnology Days for school students on Wednesday and Thursday, January 26 and 27, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. each day.

Bachelor's and Master's students of biotechnology have organized a program of lectures and experiments for the seventh time in cooperation with the program management and the Central Student Advisory Service, which they realize themselves. Also in its virtual form this year, due to the pandemic, the Biotechnology Days are very popular with school classes and individuals, especially from Brandenburg and Saxony. In addition to young people, educators also familiarize themselves with the topic.

Immediately after the welcome, the participants enter the exciting laboratory activity. The 13-member student organization team has prepared three consecutive films with laboratory experiments. The 20-minute films are devoted to "Experiments from the microbiology lab,""How does alcohol affect liver cells?" and "Microorganisms".

The presentation of the bachelor and master degree program in biotechnology, which is located at the university site in Senftenberg, by the head of the program, Dr. Barbara Hansen, followed. The course, with its high practical component and the opportunity to broaden one's horizons in renowned, even international, research institutions, offers perfect conditions for entry into the biotechnology sector and a wide range of professional opportunities.

Finally, the participating students organize an extensive lecture program in German or English. Each student gives a short presentation of 15 minutes on a current and interesting topic related to biotechnology, which they could choose themselves. Among other things, the participants learn about plants as a pharmacological source from nature and the microbiological sources of beer production, they receive information about biosensors and nanobiotechnology and the question "How does the painkiller know where it should act?", will be answered.

After each part of the program, participants will have the opportunity to ask their questions at the Biotechnology Days.
