BTU for Future - Transdisciplinary Module for Students (13710)

The new transdisciplinary module BTU4Future provides an overview of current research at the BTU on climate change and climate protection. It deals theoretically and practically with the question of what a Uni4future can look like. The module consists of a lecture series (online Mondays 17:30-19:00) and a practical exercise (on-site Wednesdays 11:30-13:00).

Climate protection and sustainable development are among the central challenges facing contemporary societies. Politics, business and civil society are equally challenged to address the causes and consequences of climate change and to deal with the political project of sustainable development.

Upon completion of the module(13710), students will have an overview of different disciplinary perspectives, concepts and empirical results in the context of climate change mitigation and sustainable development. They know current research work and researchers at the BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg. Students gain transformative and practical knowledge in implementing their own climate protection and sustainability projects. They practice group and project work and gain knowledge of inter- and transdisciplinary methods and approaches in climate and sustainability research.

ABOUT THE RING LECTURE

At BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg, research on climate change and climate protection as well as sustainable development is conducted using different geographical scales and from different disciplinary perspectives. The online ring lecture aims to provide students of all disciplines as well as an interested public with a comprehensive overview of climate research at the BTU, thus advancing inter- and transdisciplinary understanding. The lectures, which are mostly held in German, will be made available as recordings with English subtitles. The first date of the lecture series (online Mondays 17:30-19:00) is April 25, 2022.

ABOUT THE EXERCISE.

The practical exercise part accompanies the lecture series in the form of an application-oriented project workshop. The aim of the project workshop is for students to develop a critical understanding of universities/colleges as a place for sustainable development and then to design and implement their own climate change project ideas. First date of the exercise (Wednesdays 11:30-13:00) is April 20, 2022 in room 4B B3.18.

The lecture series will be held in German (slides with English translation will be uploaded afterwards). The tutorial will be held in English or German as needed.
