New Student Service Center from 14.2.2023

In the future, BTU students, applicants, and prospective students will be able to address their questions to the new Student Service Center at the Main Campus Cottbus and the Campus Senftenberg. The name change is also accompanied by new premises and changes in responsibilities.

The Student Service presents itself at the Main Campus Cottbus and the Campus Senftenberg in a new guise. From the opening on 14 February 2023 at 9 am at the Main Campus Cottbus (Main Building, Room 0.27), the official change to a new structure takes place, which offers advantages for all involved. The Student Advisory Office and the International Relations Office are not affected by the change.

The support provided by the Admissions and Registrar's Office is to be improved, among other things, through a restructuring in responsibilities: Instead of individual persons per study program, a team of four to six persons is now responsible for all study programs of a faculty. A total of three teams take care of concerns regarding the study programs of the six faculties as well as the doctoral/PhD students. Another team is responsible for all matters relating to applications and admissions.

»Situations in which a particularly large number of inquiries about a matter or study program are received are now handled jointly by several employees. With this system, we want to provide the best possible service while keeping the workload for our employees at a feasible level. Especially for the time shortly before as well as during the start of the semester, the restructuring of the Student Service Center is another measure to cope with the high level of inquiries«, Grit Scheppan explains the reasons for the restructuring.

Contact to the Student Service Center

To the overview of the teams, responsibilities, contact details and office hours

As with the Information Center as the predecessor institution, students and applicants can contact the Student Service Center in person, by telephone and by e-mail. In order to find out which team of the Student Service Center is responsible for you, you only need to know at which faculty you are studying.

Personal consultations are available at the Main Campus (Main building, Room 0.27) on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and at the Campus Senftenberg (Building 2, Room 2.213.1) on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students at the Campus Cottbus-Sachsendorf use the office hours at the Main Campus Cottbus for personal counseling. The teams of the Student Services Center can be reached by phone on Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, students, applicants and prospective students can contact the Student Service Center by e-mail at any time.

In the best case, a concern can be clarified directly in the Student Service Center, on the phone or briefly by e-mail. If a detailed personal discussion is necessary, appointments with individual employees can be made outside of the office hours of the Student Service Center, as in the past.

Self Service Points (Validation Stations)

The locations of the validation stations for validating the student ID/semester ticket remain unchanged at the Campus Cottbus-Sachsendorf (Library, Building 7, Foyer) as well as at the Campus Senftenberg (Library, Building 2, Foyer).

At the Main Campus in Cottbus (Main Building), the validation stations will initially remain as usual in room 0.27. For a transitional period, they will only be accessible during the opening hours of the Student Service Center. Due to ongoing renovation work, there is currently no possibility to use the other self-service functions (terminal for activating key cards for PC pools, copier/printer and PC - e.g. for printing study certificates). These functions and devices will soon be available a few meters away in room 0.9 (formerly Information Center).

Further changes in planning

»We want our students, visitors and employees to feel comfortable in the areas in front of the Student Service Center, even if they are busy. To this end, we are receiving support with internal expertise from the Department of Design and Construction, led by Prof. Per Pedersen, to implement these plans in the following months«, says Grit Scheppan.

Until then, students and staff will get used to the new structures. »The staff of the Student Service are doing their best to make the transition to the new structure as smooth as possible. I am very grateful to the entire team for their commitment," says Prof. Peer Schmidt, Vice President for Academic Affairs.
