Ceremonial handover of the grant notification for the development of the core area in the Lausitz Science Park
This marks the start of planning for the first development measures in the core area on the site of the former military airfield. EGC Entwicklungsgesellschaft Cottbus is taking on the tasks on behalf of the city of Cottbus and managing the funds.
An important moment for the EGC team led by Marion Ernst and Bernd Rabann: on 11 July at 11 a.m., they will hold the grant notification in their hands in a public ceremony. EGC Manager Tim Berndt and the most important supporters and partners such as Mayor Doreen Mohaupt, Councillor for Economic Affairs Dr Markus Niggemann, IHK Managing Director André Fritsche, representatives of the ILB and the Lusatia economic region, the LSP project of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg and DSK Deutsche Stadt- und Grundstücksentwicklungsgesellschaft jointly honoured this solemn moment.
Pioneering work
In his motivating speech, Dr Klaus Freytag pointed out that "the visibility of structural change is often critically questioned". He is convinced that in two to three years' time, excavators will be hard at work on today's "greenfield sites". He goes on to emphasise that it is still "difficult for many people to imagine that one of Lusatia's most important projects - Brandenburg's largest technology park in the future - will soon be picking up speed right behind me." The Lusatia representative emphasises the focus on "the energies of tomorrow" for the development and the major challenges that lie ahead for EGC and the city of Cottbus.
Tim Berndt emphasises: "The subsidised project will cover a partial area of 65 hectares and will be completed around 2031. Few people realise that there is already land available for the project - DLR, Chesco & Co. have already submitted their proposals. If you are interested, you are welcome to contact us. We support real pioneering work!"
Dr Markus Schwenke, Head of the LSP project at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, emphasises on this important day: "Today's handover of the grant decision marks the start of a new chapter for the Lusatia Science Park. The development of the core area is a visible starting signal for the construction of the future business and science park. Together with the city, the BTU and many partners from science and industry, we are creating space for innovation, growth and sustainable value creation."
The LSP as a long-term project
The overall development of the 420-hectare Lausitz Science Park is a generational project and will remain a driving force behind structural change for companies and scientific institutions as well as for the residents of Lusatia.
Over the next few years, the city of Cottbus, the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg and WISTA Management GmbH will work closely together to create a business and science park with national and international appeal at the Cottbus site. The LSP focuses on the future fields of energy transition and decarbonisation, health and life sciences, global change and transformation processes as well as artificial intelligence and sensor technology. With a direct connection to the city centre and BTU, the LSP is an outstanding project with high commercial spin-off potential in the Berlin-Lusatia innovation corridor. The Lausitz Science Park will also be extended by a climate-friendly urban neighbourhood to create an attractive place to live and work.
A new geocache with symbolic character
Geocaching has long since established itself as a modern treasure hunt. The LSP can be seen as a treasure of the future for the region. From the initiators' point of view, it therefore made sense to install an exciting mulicache to mark the start of development in the core area and thus draw more attention to the site. Thanks to the enthusiastic support of the Cottbus geocaching community, the installation will take place shortly and the listing will be published on geocaching.com.
