Removal from the Register of Students

The rules in force for removal from the Register of Students can be found in the Enrolment Rules of BTU Cottbus.

What can be the reasons for being removed from the enrolment register?
One may be removed from the enrolment register at one’s own request or by the administrative office as a consequence of some action (e.g. running out of chances to repeat a required examination or failure to register for the following semester).

How do I request to have myself removed from the enrolment register when it is my own personal decision to leave the university?
The application must be submitted online via the myBTU-Portal under My Studies > Applications > Removal from the Register of Students. You can state on the form what day you would like to be removed from the enrolment register, but the earliest date is the day that you submit the form. Your removal from the enrolment register cannot be backdated. You can view the processing status of your online applications in the myBTU-Portal.

Note on completing the online application for removal from the register of students at the end of the current semester:
If you want to remove yourself from the register of students at the end of the current semester, please select the current semester and the last day of the semester: 31st March (last day in the winter semester) or 30th September (last day in the summer semester). This will then be the last day of your enrolment at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.

Note on completing the online application for removal from the register of students before the end of the current semester:
If you want to remove yourself from the register of students before the end of the current semester, such as in the middle of the semester, please select the current semester and the date the last day of your enrolment should be at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. As of the following day, you will no longer be enrolled at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.

In the event of removal from the register of students before the end of the current semester (30th September or the 31st March) the student identification card (chip card) must be submitted to the Admissions and Registrar’s Office in addition to the online application. If you are to be removed from the enrolment register before the end of the current semester (30th September or 31st March), then you need to attach your Student I.D. to the request form.

When and how do I receive my notice of removal from the register of students?

You will be informed by email after you have been successfully removed from the register of students. Your certificate of exmatriculation will be made available to you in the myBTU-Portal under My Studies > Study Service > Notices/Certificates for self-printing (PDF file). Please download this as soon as possible and keep it in a safe place for future inquiries. For example, you will need the certificate of exmatriculation for pension insurance or to enrol at another university.

What do I need to be aware of when I am removed from the enrolment register?
Your affiliation with the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg ends when you are removed from the enrolment register. Being removed from the enrolment register has ramifications on your health insurance, child benefits and BAföG financial support. If you are a foreigner residing in Germany on a visa for the purpose of studying, your residence right ends when you are removed from the enrolment register.

What happens to my BTU account when I am removed from the enrolment register?
Your BTU-Account including your email address will expire four weeks after the date of your removal from the register of students. This means that you can still download documents from the myBTU-Portal (for example the certificate of enrolment, transcript of study progress, certificate of exmatriculation) or from the Online Portal (e.g. transcript of records) for up to four weeks after your removal from the register of students. After these four weeks are over, you will no longer be able to access any records. So, please remember to download or print out all the notices and certificates beforehand!
