Learning Outcome:Student will be able to:
  • understand working principle of diverse devices for the control of gaseous emissions.
  • understand relations between apparatus or process design and performance. 
  • select and combine appropriate technologies for the reduction of emissions in specific situations.
Contents:Introduction – applications of gas cleaning in industrial processes and pollution control. Historical development and legislation.
Various topics of particle separation and dust control. Characterization of particle size distributions and separation efficiency. Gravitational and inertial particle separators. Filters. Electrostatic precipitators. Wet scrub­bers. Droplet separation. Combinations of separators.
Separation of acid gases (HCl, HX, SO2/SO3 and others)
Reduction of NOx, SNCR and SCR processes.
Reduction of VOCs.                                                 
Special Topics (Mercury, PAHs, Dioxins).
Recommended Prerequisites:Students should have a bachelor´s degree in engineering science or physics

  • The laboratory report (ca. 10 pages) is a prerequisite for admission to the final module examination.

  • Written (1.5 hrs) examination
