Dependable Hardware / Software Systems is an international postgraduate PhD Programme. Over a period of three years, the programme broadens students' expertise in the field of highly dependable, embedded and distributed Hardware / Software Systems and further qualifies them for independent scientific research.

We require a Master´s degree in an appropriate course of studies (EE, CS, CE) with a regular duration of at least eight semesters from all applicants. A Bachelor´s degree is not sufficient. In addtion, we require a proof of English proficiency and additional documents (for more information check the section “Application Documents”).

This is a presence based PhD Programme that requires students to be present during the lecture period. Registration and enrolment as PhD student at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is mandatory.

The PhD programme includes both profound research activities with supervision of an experienced researcher and different tutorials in relevant areas of technology. PhD candidates should be able to submit their thesis after three years for a successful graduation.

Particularly at the beginning of the programme, students attend courses, tutorials and seminars to deepen their knowledge of a broad spectrum of topics such as the specification, design, and test of complex electronic systems. All courses are offered in English. In the course of the programme, the focus is increasingly on individual research contributing to the state of the art in a specific research area. The results of this research are summarized in a dissertation written in English. The programme closes with an extended oral defense where students present their dissertation and discuss their results.
