Mechanical engineering at universities of applied sciences addresses three subject areas:

  1. Construction methods and prototype testing: Design, calculation and simulation with metallic materials and plastics, also for lightweight applications, development of machines, manufacturing chains, test and inspection systems;
  2. Plastics, tribology, materials: Development of surface coatings, joining processes and technologies for the treatment and processing of metallic materials and plastics as well as associated test methods, if necessary also for medical applications;
  3. Production management and factory planning: statistical and quantitative methods of quality assurance and quality management, risk management and Six Sigma method, modelling and simulation of production and service structures, digital working environments in the factory, digital factory and factory planning systems.
