In the KEPLER (Key System, Entwurfs-Prozesse, Leichtbau, EHM für Hochleistungs-Reduktionsgetriebe - Key System, Design processes, lightweight construction, EHM for high-performance reduction gears) project, the BTU is supporting the engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce, which is so important for the state of Brandenburg, in the development of a central component for engines of the generation after next. These will feature, among other things, a significantly larger, slow-running fan and a new core engine architecture for maximum fuel efficiency and low emissions. A reduction gearbox will be used for the first time. Due to the high demands on speed, size, power to be transmitted, efficiency and weight, there is still a considerable need for research, which the BTU doctoral students will help to cover.
