Contents

Starting with a short insight into the history of the foundry and the topic of design of casting moulds, the lecture is oriented towards the process chain from CAD design to the finished casting. The main focus of the lecture is on casting processes, which are divided into processes with lost moulds and processes with permanent moulds. Various current casting processes such as sand casting, die casting, centrifugal casting etc. as well as the casting defects typically occurring in these processes are presented. Important aspects of gating and feeder technology, casting simulation, pattern and tool making, melting technology, core making and quality assurance are covered in the lecture.
