UMTS network planning

Dimensioning the UMTS radio interface is a key step during the deployment of a UMTS network and its subsequent expansions. The configuration of this interface is of vital importance to the network operator: firstly, the radio interface layout determines the capability to provide services (in terms of coverage as well as capacity), and secondly, it accounts for a major portion of the total network installation and maintenance costs.

Within the Momentum project we developed a fast (“snap-shot like”) simulation and evaluation approach for every-day planning purposes, modeling dynamics of traffic mixtures and QoS aspects, and an automatic planning and optimization method for network configuration.
