Discover BTU

Besides the many opportunities for international courses and excursions I like the area around Cottbus. The region of south Brandenburg is a very calm area, close to many different Natural Reserves where biking is especially nice, for example along the Spree River. I also love to go canoeing in the Spreewald natural reserve.

Esteban Menares, Chile, Environmental and Resource Management

In my spare time I am involved in the organization of the "Slavik Culture Nights" at BTU. I'm happy to live in a quiet, nice, safe city that isn't too big. And with the semester ticket I can explore the whole of Brandenburg and Berlin.

Darya Sopryayeva, Kazakhstan, Processing Technologies of Materials

Life here is affordable, BTU is a very international university and there’s a lot of professional support during the studies. Cottbus being a small town is an easy place to arrive and adapt when you’re coming from another country. BTU is great as it provides a variety of multicultural activities, language courses and sports.

Viviane Komati. Brazil, Environmental and Resouce Management

At BTU, I like the willingness of the professors to help the students. In and around Cottbus I especially like the beautiful lakes, the Branitzer park and the Spreewald. I like the tranquility in Cottbus very much, it is a nice variety of life in big cities and very good for studying, since I can focus well on it.

Gitau Mwathi, Kenya, Engineering

As a guest researcher in the team for Multiparameter Diagnostics I am very excited to work in the best laboratory I have ever been. The town of Senftenberg is a silent, peaceful, charming city with beautiful nature and it is lovely to be here – especially in summer, when the swimming season starts.

Adeliia Giliazeva, Russia, Biotechnology

My preferences were to study science and help the earth, while enjoying the combination of German and international culture. The BTU was the best option among others! Cottbus is a city, so you can find almost everything you want easily. But it is not so loud or crowded, and you can have quiet time and study as well.

Jung Yoon, South Korea, Environmental and Resource Management

For Bachelor´s degree programmes, these are usually a German university entrance qualification. • How long does one semester last? What other dates do I have to keep in mind?

One year at the university is divided into semesters, each lasting six months. The winter semester runs from October to March and the summer semester from April to September. Most study programmes at BTU start in the winter semester. An overview of all important dates, such as lecture periods, application and enrolment deadlines is provided by the schedule of the current semester

  • How can I get a timetable for my studies?

A fixed timetable is rare when studying. Putting together the modules for the first semester is therefore usually one of the first challenges while studying, which in Germany is very freely organized in many subjects and must (and may! :)) be designed independently.

The course of the first semester can and should be planned with the help of the examination and study regulations of the degree programme and the Information Portal Teaching. In the appendix of the examination and study regulations, you will find the standard study plan (curriculum), which suggests a distribution of the modules over the semesters of the study programme. All modules and courses of BTU are incorporated within the Information Portal Teaching, including the modules for the first semester. Further information can be found in the brochure Getting Started and - on the various student portals - in the tutorial series "Digital BTU".

Absolutely essential: At the beginning of your studies, all of this information and what to do with it is new and unfamiliar. That's why the introductory week for first-year students provides support and good examples that you can use as a guide.
