Micro- and nanoelectronic technologies and systems are key elements of intelligent energy supply. Microelectronics and information technology are the link between humans, the environment and technical systems.

In the FG Microelectronics research and teaching are closely interwoven. Research topics are in particular the distribution and control of energy in mobile electronic systems with energy-saving digital converters. In car battery management, the stored energy in the battery is measured by high-performance analog-to-digital converters. For power management or neural interfaces in implants, we are researching circuits on nanometer technologies that can process higher voltages. The DFG supports us in studies on a new generation of energy-saving AD converters.

In the scientific education students have access to the 65nm technology of the world market leader TSMC as well as to logic components on 28nm technology (Xilinx Kintex-7) and to current microcontrollers (ARM Cortex-M3). Comprehensive basic education in the field of electronic circuits, mixed-signal IC design and microprocessor technology, as well as individual supervision, form a solid basis for the training.

Students, scientists and industrial partners use 22-bit ADC measurement technology and mixed-signal oscilloscopes with 10GS/s for investigations in the temperature range from -40 to 160° C in our laboratories.
