SUMMARY: Car-free university day at BTU 2024
DESCRIPTION:What will happen this year?\nThis year, the focus of the day is on the exchange of ideas on existing and future sustainable mobility. Under the question "How can the roads and paths of the future be designed at BTU?", the ideas competition "FutureRoads@BTU" was launched: all BTU students and staff (in teams or individually) can submit ideas and concepts for redesigning the streets, paths and parking spaces at the BTU sites until 31.05.24. On June 18, the submitted ideas and prototypes will be presented on campus and the best three will be awarded a prize of €250 each.\nThis year's event will be accompanied by a market of opportunities in front of the interim canteen from 11:00 - 14:00. At the end of the day, the award ceremony and a panel discussion on the opportunities and challenges of sustainable mobility in rural Lusatia in clay construction will take place at 14:30.\nPlease note: There will be no road closures on this day. Nevertheless, we would be delighted if you would take this day as an opportunity to use alternatives to the car.\n\nInformation on the individual parts of the Car-Free University Day 2024\nCompetition "FutureRoads@BTU"\nAs part of the FutureRoads@BTU competition, ideas and concepts for the redesign of the streets, paths and parking areas of the BTU locations (main campus, Campus Sachsendorf, Campus Senftenberg, Campus North) are to be submitted, taking into account the various usage requirements (e.g. stay & social interaction, development, connection). Finished prototypes (e.g. redesign of parking spaces) or concepts (e.g. in video form, poster, collage or packaged in a poetry slam) can be presented. To take part in the competition, a description/explanation of the entry must be submitted by 31.05.2024 by email to katrin.uhl@b-tu.de. All entries submitted will be exhibited on 18.06.2026 as part of the nationwide Car-Free University Day.\nMarket of opportunities\nThe "Market of Opportunities" will take place from 11:00 to 14:00 on the main campus in front of the Interim Mensa near the Fablab. There will be a pop-up self-help bicycle workshop, a drinks bar, sustainable snacks and information stands from the ADFC, the FabLab and many other groups.\n \nPanel discussion incl. award ceremony\nAt the end of the day, at 2:30 p.m., we want to hold a practical discussion on the future planning of sustainable mobility in Cottbus and the region. With representatives from a wide range of transport stakeholders in the region, we will discuss the question "Car-free - but how?" Possibilities and challenges of sustainable mobility in rural Lusatia" will be discussed. Your questions and contributions are very welcome!\nOur panel guests\n Prof. Christine Eisenmann, Chair of Infrastructure and Mobility Planning Ralf Thalmann, Manager Cottbusverkehr Sven Koritkowski, Service Area Manager for Transport and Infrastructure Planning, City of Cottbus/Chóśebuz Martin Wenzel, VCD Brandenburg \n\nHelp wanted!\nAre you interested in getting involved in organizing the Car-Free University Day at BTU (e.g. setting up/dismantling the Market of Opportunities)?
