SUMMARY:Women in STEM Network | 7th Network Meeting
DESCRIPTION:However, when it comes to shaping structural change through policy, it is evident that gender issues are often overlooked – even though those involved in gender equality policy in the regions have long been highlighting their importance. Against this backdrop, the Federal Foundation for Gender Equality has commissioned a study on this topic. In her study for the Federal Foundation for Gender Equality, the author, Dr Viginia Kimey Pflücke of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, compares the Rhenish, Lusatian and Central German lignite mining regions. \nUntil now, structural change in Germany’s lignite-mining regions has primarily been treated as an economic problem. The focus here is on job losses. Gender-sensitive perspectives have largely been ignored – both in political strategies and in public discourse. In her study, Dr Pflücke examines the following thematic areas in greater detail and presents her findings to us:\nWork (jobs subject to social security contributions, mini-jobs, unemployment)Income (gender pay gap)MobilityHistorically established modelsStructural support measuresChallenges (demographics, governance deficits, ambivalent resilience)Approaches to action (gender equality, social infrastructure, care economy, participation, etc.)\nOur evening will be rounded off by Lisi Maier (Executive Board of the Federal Foundation for Gender Equality). She will present the Foundation’s core themes and key initiatives for the Lusatia region from the Foundation’s perspective. If we have sparked your interest, we warmly invite you to our 7th network meeting. All women and men at the BTU are welcome. As always, the event is free of charge.\nPlease send your registrations to ramona.riedel(at)b-tu.de.
