SUMMARY:2026 Nobel Prize in Physics
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Francis Halzen “for decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin.” Dr. Christian Spiering explains the physical background and implications underlying the Nobel Prize. He is one of the world’s most renowned experts in neutrino astrophysics and, through his role in the telescopes at Lake Baikal and the South Pole, is one of the pioneers in the field. Until 2013, he headed the neutrino group at DESY; in 2014, he initiated the “Global Neutrino Network” for decisive contributions to the IceCube neutrino observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin. Christian Spiering is the author of the popular science book *The Strangest Particle in the World: In Search of the Neutrino*.
