The range of events includes lectures, seminars, research projects, and excursions, with possibilities of individual priorities being offered. Students can choose from a wide range of theories and research results from the subfields of sociology within the framework of self-directed learning. In addition, they are encouraged to bring in their own topics and work on them from a sociological standpoint.

In the courses of the department, theory and empirical approaches are closely interlinked with an eye to current developments and challenges. The fundamentals of epistemology and scientific theory as well as sociological methods are taught. With sociology as an academic tool, students of social work can train and deepen their analytical and argumentation skills.

The department also offers the opportunity to participate in current research projects that go beyond the courses. Interested students are encouraged to contact Prof. Dr. Behrensen directly.
