Structural change in the lignite mining regions

Perspectives from Science and Practice Three Years after the Decision to Phase Out Coal

The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus - Senftenberg together with the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research Halle (IWH) and the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) invites you to a transdisciplinary conference on structural change at the BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg on November 9 and 10, 2023.

Three years after the decision to phase out coal in Germany, the conference will shed light on structural change in the lignite phase-out regions of the Lusatian, Central German and Rhenish coalfields. Its central concern is the dialog between science and practice in order to generate individual learning experiences for all participants and at the same time to enable collective learning effects for the further process design and support in the structural change.

The conference's expert workshops are based on a comprehensive understanding of transformation. Distributional and procedural justice, intelligent specialization and innovation will be addressed as well as spatial relations and spatial effectiveness, inclusion and participation, the impact of regional structural policy, and labor markets and the recruitment of skilled workers in structural change.

For further information, please see our programme and the workshop concept of the conference.

Unfortunately, registration for the conference is no longer possible due to the large response.

For your accommodation during the conference, special allotments are available at the Radisson Blu Hotel, the Spree-Waldhotel Cottbus and the Hotel Dorotheenhof Cottbus.
