Right or wrong? Building Archaeology - a checker´s approach?

Lecturer

Dr.-Ing. Peter I. Schneider

Content

Stone circles, pyramids, cathedrals – there is a long list of structures that can spark our imagination and give rise to the wildest ideas. But not everything needs to be shrouded in myth to raise fascinating questions about architecture. The most fascinating questions are posed by history itself: about the quality of social spaces, the functionality of concepts, or the unspoken cultural and anthropological assumptions we project onto our interpretation of ruins and archaeological remains. Building archaeology is an approach to getting to the bottom of curious questions and interests regarding architecture and built spaces, or to stepping off the beaten track of academic rigour. However, it presupposes that the built heritage is properly appreciated, maintained and preserved in all its materiality. This course aims to address this connection between questions and heritage conservation.
