Skills:

  • Analysis of the relationship between everyday culture, urban morphology and building typology
  • Preparation of a written thesis based on literature- and on-site research
  • Preparation of sketches (free-hand), preparation of urban development analysis plans (scale 1: 5.000 to 1: 500)
  • Preparation of building designs in ground plan, elevation and section
  • describing the utilisation of exterior and interior spaces (scale 1: 200 to 1: 50)
  • understanding and representing the conditions for the development of urban systems and the associated spatial configurations
  • preparation of conceptual models and spatial models
  • oral presentation of work.

Abilities:

  • comprehension of the reciprocal dependencies between social forms, everyday culture, architecture and city.
  • description of the coherencies between urban development design, as the concrete spatial situation of buildings, and building design, as the urban building block
  • identification of basic types, norms and their variations, transformation on the levels of city and house
  • summary and presentation of the compiled information in text and plan
  • Independent interpretation of the analysis of urban morphology and its features (spatial characteristics, design features of roads, squares and buildings etc.)
  • processing of design concepts for the respective urban development situations in dialogue with space, housing typology and urban morphology
  • detailed design of important spatial configurations
  • the development of suitable building typologies with variations
  • development of implementation strategies
Presentation in form of drawings and models.

  • Interactions in the relationship between city and house
  • coherency of urban space, social form and everyday culture
  • principles of urban classification and processes of self-creation
  • historical references and their effects on the configuration of private and public space
  • typologies of urban building blocks and the history of their development
  • effect of technological and constructional innovation on urban morphology
  • forms taken by city and house
Recommended Prerequisites:a good knowledge of fundamentals of urban design and landscape planning

Assessment Mode for Module Examination:Successful completion of project work including oral presentation and discussion of the results.

The project work mostly consists of
  • graphic presentation of the idea
  • integration in urban situation (scale 1:2000)
  • the design (scale 1:500)
  • model (scale 1:2000 to 1:500).
