Learning Outcome:After participating in the module, students will have advanced knowledge in the chemistry and physics of combustion processes including engine simulations and optimizations. Building on the content taught, they are able to independently investigate and present selected advanced topics from research.
Contents:
  • Thermodynamics and Chemical kinetics of Combustion Processes
  • Reaction kinetics of homogeneous gas phase reactions
  • Balance equations for laminar and turbulent flows
  • Ignition and extinction processes in homogeneous systems
  • Laminar and turbulent premixed and diffusion flames
  • Pollutant formation
Recommended Prerequisites:
  • Module 44407 Technical Combustion
  • Strongly recommended: Fundamental knowledge in mathematics and physics, thermodynamics, and heat and mass transfer.
