13015 - Particle and Astroparticle Physics Modulübersicht

Module Number: 13015
Module Title:Particle and Astroparticle Physics
  Teilchen- und Astroteilchenphysik
Department: Faculty 1 - Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
Responsible Staff Member:
  • Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Lohmann, Wolfgang
Language of Teaching / Examination:English
Duration:1 semester
Frequency of Offer: On special announcement
Credits: 6
Learning Outcome:After successfully completing the module students will have acquired a profound knowledge about modern concepts of electromagnetic, weak and strong interactions in sub-nuclear, particle and astroparticle physics and modern experimental techniques used in the field. They know about the cognitive methods used in fundamental research, and their application in example-experiments.

Creativity, initiative and teamwork, prerequisites for successful research work, have been developed.
Contents:The lectures cover:
  • structure of nuclei, radioactivity, nuclear fission and fusion, energy production in stars
  • modern concepts of particle and astroparticle physics
  • fundamental particles and fields, parity and CP violation
  • cosmic rays, dark matter and the development of the universe
  • experimenal methods, detector technologies, key experiments
A visit of DESY Hamburg (Research Center of Helmholtz Association) is planned.
