Learning Outcome:As a result of participating in this module, you have
  • knowledge of the Anthropocene concept as a proclaimed new geological age within the context of law

You are able
  • to classify the Anthropocene concept in the sustainability discourse or to critically contrast it,
  • to critically question whether the state and its organization can cope with the Anthropocene,
  • derive potential consequences of the Anthropocene concept for the legal system,
  • to develop a one-semester study project based on what you have learned,
  • to create a well-founded presentation and to carry out a written elaboration on a context-related question.
Contents:The (none-legal) anthropocene concept and (legal) questions and answers: reducing human impact on the natural environment (mitigation); human adaptation to environmental changes; Possibilities and limits of technological influence on nature/environment, e.g. through geoengineering; Consequences of the Anthropocene concept for the legal organization of women and men in the state.

  • project proposal, max. 3 pages (25 %)
  • final presentation, 15-25 min (15 %)
  • project report, min. 12 pages (60 %)
