14995 - Advanced Organic and Polymer Chemistry Modulübersicht

Module Number: 14995
Module Title:Advanced Organic and Polymer Chemistry
  Organische und Polymerchemie für Fortgeschrittene
Department: Faculty 2 - Environment and Natural Sciences
Responsible Staff Member:
  • Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Neffe, Axel T.
Language of Teaching / Examination:English
Duration:1 semester
Frequency of Offer: Every winter semester
Credits: 6
Learning Outcome:

After completing the module, students will be able to comprehend and plan multistep and stereoselective syntheses, as well as explain and apply reaction mechanism beyond the undergraduate level.

The students will furthermore be able to correlate the chemical structures of polymers with their physico-chemical properties and functions. They have become familiar with the structure, various methods for the synthesis, properties and modern applications of functional polymers.

Contents:

Stereoselective syntheses, pericyclic reactions, re-arrangements, metalorganic reactions, multistep synthesis and synthesis planning.

Technical polymerizations and advanced polymer synthesis, Materials from regrowing ressources and circular polymer economy, ring-opening polymerization, stereochemistry in polymer science, biopolymer-based materials, functional polymers and their applications such as in battery research, liquid-crystalline elastomers, self-healing materials, and shape-memory polymers, AI in polymer research

Recommended Prerequisites:

Sound knowledge of basic organic and polymer chemistry

Mandatory Prerequisites:

Students must not have previously taken and passed Module 14297 (Polymer Chemistry)

Forms of Teaching and Proportion:
  • Lecture / 4 Hours per Week per Semester
  • Self organised studies / 120 Hours
Teaching Materials and Literature:

-          All lecture contents are provided as slides for download.

Module Examination:Final Module Examination (MAP)
Assessment Mode for Module Examination:

MAP = oral examination, 30 min.

Evaluation of Module Examination:Performance Verification – graded
Limited Number of Participants:None
Part of the Study Programme:
  • Master (research-oriented) / Chemistry: Materials, Engineering and Sustainability / PO 2025
Remarks:

Module cannot be taken when successfully having passed module 14297 (Polymer Chemistry)

The module may be a part of focussing on polymeric materials and will combine well with the modules Modern Concepts of Material Design (14309), Methods in Material Analytics (14298), Biomaterials (14408), and Advanced Organic and Polymer Synthesis (14777)

Module Components:
  • Lecture Advanced Organic and Polymer Chemistry – mandatory
  • Module Examination (oral) – mandatory
Components to be offered in the Current Semester:
