Learning Outcome:Basic knowledge of Structural analysis and design of shells, shaped with simple structures, ability for the formulation and solution of the principal differential equations.

Application
  • Modelling of more complex structures and structural analysis by application of Finite-Element software within a project.
Abilities
  • Getting well known, how to develop a suitable shape of shell in compliance with the used building material
Contents:
  • Structural behaviour of shell structures, assumption of technical shell theory, membrane theory of revolving shells, bending theory of cylindrical shells, solution of selected structural shell problems, derivation of a finite element for revolving shells
  • Minimal surfaces, Linearisation (Force density method), geometric nonlinearity of deformations, Eigenfrequencies, Optimisation of Topology- and Boundary conditions, specifics of construction and detailing; special aspects of using Finite-Element software for structural analysis of shells
