Contents: | In the wake of increasing globalization of the economy and transformations in the relationship between states and markets, many scholars have become increasingly aware of the need for systematic analysis of the social dimensions of economic institutions and practices. This seminar provides an introduction into main topics of the sociological debate on social change and economic phenomena and gives an overview of core theories in this field. Topics: The (changed) economic and social role of flexible labour markets, processes of rationalization, production regimes and management concepts, finance markets and (informal) networks; comparative analysis of industrial organisations in different countries; capitalism in (non)-western societies; transformation in Eastern Germany and Europe; migration flows and social cohesion. |
