Wasif Haider Syed, M.Sc.

I obtained my bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences & Technology (GIKI), Pakistan, and my master’s degree in mechatronics engineering from the Technical University of Hamburg (TUHH) with a specialization in Intelligent systems & robotics. During my master's, I have built a strong background in the field of control systems through courses like “Control system theory & design”, “Optimal & robust control”, and “Linear & nonlinear system identification”.

I did my master’s thesis in the Institute of Control Systems at TUHH in collaboration with German Electron Synchrotron (DESY). In my master thesis Koopman-based Kalman filter algorithm was used to develop a fault detection scheme for quench detection of European-XFEL. Based on the findings of my master thesis, we published a paper in the proceedings of the Conference on Decision & Control 2021. After my master's, I joined DESY as a graduate scientist assistant and worked on system identification for the Continuous-wave upgrade of European-XFEL.

I joined the chair of Control Systems & Network Control Technology at Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) in June 2022 as a research associate. I will be working on a joint project between Rolls Royce Germany and BTU in the field of control and operation of highly integrated electro-thermal systems of future electrified flight propulsion systems. My research focus is on Intelligent power control systems for the electrical grid components. With the help of this project, I am hopeful to play my part toward clean aviation for a sustainable world.
