Programme Objectives

The Architecture Programme of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg

Students enrolled in the BTU’s Bachelor and Master programmes acquire the practical and theoretical knowledge they will need to work as architects in practice or research. Students learn the relevant abilities and skills, and can apply scientific methods and findings in a critical manner. Our graduates are able to independently develop and draw their ideas by hand or by computer, ideas which they then realise and implement in real space and as tangible structures. They are trained to follow complex building operations and to coordinate the various technical disciplines involved in the construction process.

The BTU’s architectural study programmes are structured in phases. The first phase comprises six semesters of Bachelor level courses, followed by four semesters of Master studies. The Bachelor is the primary professionally-qualifying undergraduate degree. BA graduates qualify for BTU Master Programme in Architecture. After obtaining their Bachelor’s degree, students may elect to interrupt their studies in order to work or to pursue another course of study.

Nevertheless, a Masters degree is the most important prerequisite for students wishing to achieve self-determination, to work independently in professional architecture and for admission to the Chambers of Architecture of the European Union.
