LeBe@BTU - Primary Teacher Education Goes East and Beyond
The DAAD-funded project (Funding Period 2025 - 2029) pursues two central goals:
- The sustainable and structural internationalization of the newly established primary teacher education study program at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, with a particular focus on East European partner universities.
- The promotion of democratic education through international collaboration with the partners from East Europe.
To achieve these goals, the project aims at establishing new university partnerships with institutions involved in primary teacher education across Eastern Europe. These institutions include universities, primary schools and other scientific and non-educational institutions. Thematically, the project is grounded in topics such as inclusion, democratic participation and education, intercultural and anti-racist pedagogy as well as education for sustainable development. The overarching objective is to enhancethe professional, intercultural, and democratic competences of future primary school teachers across various subjects (maths, German, English, physical education, music, fine arts etc.).
Planned outcomes include among others:
- establishment of sustainable cooperation with partner universities across East Europe
- establishment and curricular integration of international stays abroad, school internships, and short-term excursions to educational sites
- guest lectureships from East European partner institutions
- international symposium
- international summer school
- development of multidirectional (hybrid) teaching formats
- student scholarships and support of students going abroad

The project is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
