International Symposium "The Art of Vaulting. Design and Construction of Large Vaults in the Mediterranean Gothic"

The International Symposium "The Art of Vaulting. Design and Construction of Large Vaults in the Mediterranean Gothic" takes place on 30th November and 1st December.

The event was planned by architect Dr. Paula Fuentes and art historian Dr. phil. Anke Wunderwald, the postdoc tandem of the Research Training Group "Cultural and Technological Significance of Historic Buildings".

The symposium focuses on the impressive achievements in Gothic construction that were erected in the Mediterranean area. It will bring together international experts on this topic. Their varied backgrounds will provide different approaches to finding and answering unexplored questions. Examples such as the cathedral of Mallorca will highlight the complex processes of medieval construction and the transfer of technology, broadening our knowledge of how these impressive monuments were built as well as the construction techniques that were employed.

The introductory lecture takes place on Thursday, 30th November 2017 in the Brandenburgischen Landesmuseum für Moderne Kunst (BLMK, formerly Dieselkraftwerk dkw). On Friday, 1st December, seven talks by architects, archaeologists and art historians from Germany, France and Spain will by held in the Besucherzentrum (Visitor Centre) at Gutshof Branitz.
Interested attendants are cordially invited, entrance is free of charge. Please register until 25.11.2017 under E-Mail albrecht.wiesener(at)b-tu.de.
