Lecture evening on the Cottbus environment in structural change

In the public lecture series "Open BTU", four experts from practice and administration will focus on projects and possibilities for the climate-neutral development of the city of Cottbus on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, starting at 5:30 pm. The event is part of the 30th Cottbus Environment Week.

Speakers are:Marco Bayer - LEAG, Eik Leppin - EP New Energies GmbH, Stefan Simonides Noack - Stadtentwicklung Cottbus, Dr. Marko Sieber - Stadtwerke Cottbus. All interested parties are invited to the lecture evening "Cottbus environment in structural change - on the way to climate neutrality" in the large lecture hall, Konrad-Zuse-Straße 4, on the central campus Cottbus of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. Participation is free of charge and without pre-registration. 1. lecture LEAG in Transformation - Renewable Energy Projects in Lusatia LEAG is expanding its portfolio to include, among other things, renewable energy plants and storage technologies in order to position itself for the future as a modern energy, infrastructure and service company. Regionally produced green electricity in the post-mining landscape is part of this transformation process. In this context, a floating PV system is also being developed with EP New Energies GmbH on the filling Cottbus Baltic Sea. In addition, LEAG is also interested in the production of "green hydrogen" from renewable energies and is developing the first H2 filling station in Lusatia with its partner Cottbusverkehr in the "H2 Region Project of the Lusatian Economic Region". Lecturer :Marco Bayer, Head of Regional Stakeholder Management, LEAG -Communication & Eik Leppin, Project Manager Wind & PV, EP New Energies GmbH

2nd lecture Climate-neutral urban development: From goals to implementation - A documentation using the example of the Cottbus harbor district The Cottbus Baltic Sea is a key measure in the Cottbus urban development with the highest development priority. It offers the opportunity to further enhance the quality of life as a city on the waterfront. As the city's first CO²-neutral quarter, the Hafenquartier - an urban place with a wide variety of offerings - is to set nationwide standards for future-oriented urban development. A mobility and energy supply concept developed by the Department of Urban Engineering at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg shows how this goal can be achieved. The core message is: A CO²-neutral harbor district at Cottbus Baltic Sea is possible! Lecturer: Stefan Simonides Noack, Department of Urban Development, City of Cottbus

3rd lecture How will Cottbus be heated in 30 years? A little more than 30 years ago, Cottbus was still part of the GDR and the energy turnaround, "Fridays for Future" or the coal phase-out were foreign words. Nevertheless, future issues have to be thought about and addressed in the long term, since the lifetime of technical equipment and buildings is often several decades. The "energy turnaround" is mostly associated with changes in electricity production. However, over 50 percent of primary energy is used to generate heat. Consequently, a "heat turnaround" is necessary if CO² emissions are to be reduced to zero by 2045. How will the heating sector develop in the future and what is reasonable and realistic in a city like Cottbus? The lecture gives an insight into different possibilities of future heat generation and invites to a discussion. Lecturer: Dr. Marko Sieber, Head of Service Center Heat, Stadtwerke Cottbus

Date: Wednesday, June 15, 2022, 5:30 to 7 p.m. Location: BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg, central campus, large lecture hall, Konrad-Zuse-Straße 4, 03046 Cottbus.

About the lecture series "Open BTU" From April 6 to June 15, 2022, the public online lecture series "Open BTU" offers interesting insights into exciting scientific fields. This semester, the following topics will be covered: Lusatia in Transformation, Foundation and Business Succession, Conversation Concert at the Piano, Cottbus Environment in Structural Change - On the Way to Climate Neutrality. Current research approaches of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg are incorporated into the interdisciplinary lectures.

With this educational format, which is open to all interested parties, the university's Center for Continuing Education supports lifelong learning and promotes the transfer of knowledge and ideas in the region by addressing socially relevant issues. In doing so, the BTU cooperates with other universities and institutions. After each lecture, there will be an opportunity for questions and exchange with the speakers.
