Sustainable and standardized supply structures for nursing care

A joint conference of the districts of North Saxony and Elbe-Elster and the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) will deal with the age-friendly adaptation of living spaces in rural areas on Thursday, September 22, 2022.

Thresholds at the doors, tub baths and access routes that are not wheelchair accessible - about 95 percent of people over 65 in Germany live in apartments that are not suitable for people with mobility limitations. "To prevent falls, housing counseling can be useful," says Barbara Erjauz, a research associate in the Department of Nursing Science and Clinical Nursing. Together with her BTU colleagues Melanie Hilbig and Matthias Kernig, they are leading the cross-state research project "Development of a standard care service for age-friendly housing adaptation." "Sustainable and standardized advice can support people in remaining in their own four walls," says Matthias Kernig. "Accident risks and sources of danger can thus be eliminated and home care made easier."

The aim of the project is to optimize and further develop the range of care services for age-friendly home adaptation. "Particularly in acute care situations, it is necessary to provide personal, expert advice and support to those seeking advice in line with their needs and requirements," says Melanie Hilbig. "Only in this way can measures for change and adaptation be implemented cautiously, yet quickly and in a targeted manner." A comprehensive and standardized range of age-friendly housing advice is the basis for needs-based care, especially in rural areas. "The problem is that funding is not uniformly regulated and differs from state to state," adds the research associate. "A uniform regulation would be optimal here as well."

In a final event, the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and the districts of Nordsachsen and Elbe-Elster will present the project results to all interested parties.

Date: Thursday, September 22, 2022, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Location: District Office of North Saxony, Hartenfels Castle, Large Multipurpose Room (Wing D), Schloßstraße 27, 04860 Torgau.
