Brandenburg AI Atlas presented

Joint press release: Minister Schüle opens AI Day with universities and non-university research institutions

Science and Research Minister Dr. Manja Schüle today opened the Brandenburg AI Day of the Ministry of Science with the state's universities and non-university research institutions at the TH Wildau. As part of the series 'Change of Perspective', Oliver Windeck was also represented with a greeting. The managing director of Metallbau Windeck GmbH accompanied Minister Schüle to appointments today.

Science Minister Dr. Manja Schüle: "We often encounter artificial intelligence in our everyday lives: in the streaming provider's viewing recommendation, facial recognition on the smartphone, in the autonomous driving car. These are all great examples of individual consumer products - but AI must also have social relevance, such as the app that Potsdam-based start-up Voize has developed to make caregivers' jobs easier. Today's first Brandenburg AI Day focused on the perspectives of universities and non-university research institutions on the topic of AI. The scientists and researchers exchanged ideas among themselves on the topic of AI and entered into dialog with politicians and administrators. The ideas and impulses that emerged today will be incorporated into the key points paper that we will present to the cabinet next year, as well as into the subsequent state strategy on AI that we plan to adopt in early 2024. The Digital AI Atlas was also presented at the conference. It lists ongoing AI projects and activities in research, teaching and transfer in the state - and it shows that a lot is already going well. The future is being made in Brandenburg - and artificial intelligence is a big, important part of it!"

Prof. Dr. Michael Hübner, Vice President for Research and Transfer at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg: "Artificial intelligence is a central topic of our university in research, teaching and transfer in the profile line 'Artificial Intelligence and Sensor Technology'. From Industry 4.0 to medicine to the energy transition - in numerous projects, our researchers work together with a renowned network from science and industry on innovative technologies for our society."

Prof. Dr. Klaus-Martin Melzer, Vice President for Research and Transfer at TH Wildau: "For the first time, the Brandenburg AI Day is intended to create a statewide platform for exchange between AI researchers, teachers and interested parties from universities and non-university research institutions. Of course, interested citizens are just as welcome. We want to discuss together, illuminate different fields of application and weigh up the opportunities and risks of using AI. In this way, we want to set new impulses for Brandenburg and I look forward to a lively exchange."

As part of the first AI Day, the Brandenburg AI Atlas was presented. Prior to the conference, universities and non-university research institutions had the opportunity to submit digital posters on their AI activities. The Brandenburg AI Atlas created on this basis can be accessed here: https://ai-science-atlas.innohub13.de.

The online conference is intended to create a first-time statewide forum for AI researchers and those interested in AI to network and strategically discuss opportunities and challenges, fields of application and transfer of artificial intelligence, among other topics. Keynote speeches will be given by Prof. Dr. Antonio Krüger, Managing Director of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), and Dr. Isabella Hermann, science fiction and futurology expert.
