Can everyone keep up? - Interactive teaching with live voting (ARS)

Would you like to know whether students are making good progress in your course (whether face-to-face, hybrid or online)? Would you like to offer students in the lecture the opportunity to ask questions anonymously or signal if things are going too fast? Do you want to receive feedback or conduct a live quiz? Then you should know what ARS are...

DESCRIPTION

Audience response systems (ARS) are systems with which you can obtain live feedback from the audience. Nowadays, this can easily be implemented digitally, as it can be assumed that everyone in the auditorium has a smartphone or laptop with them. Direct feedback from students allows you to make your teaching interactive, respond more individually to students' needs and also receive feedback on your own teaching.

In this course, you will learn the basics of using ARS. Together we will classify when and how you can use ARS in your teaching. Using the free ARS tool Particify as a concrete example, you will create your first surveys and a short quiz. Finally, you will be given an overview of other ARS tools.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • You will get to know ARS comprehensively and be able to categorize it didactically
  • You will be able to operate the ARS tool Particify and use it in your own events
  • You will be able to use your ARS knowledge effectively when using other ARS tools

REQUIREMENTS

  • none (experience in teaching is advantageous but not necessary)
