Working together for STEM promotion in the south of Brandenburg
The central aim of the project is to create equal opportunities for STEM education in rural areas. The mobile programme overcomes structural barriers such as a lack of transport options, limited resources or a lack of time to access educational opportunities. The Makermobil brings STEM education to exactly where it is needed most. The focus is on providing special support for young people who have previously had little contact with technical and scientific topics, as well as girls and young women.
The mobile offer is supplemented by the stationary "MINTup", a makerspace in the centre of Herzberg. This open learning and meeting place is available to interested parties for workshops, study groups and holiday programmes.
BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is a strategic partner of the project and is contributing its didactic expertise, its expertise in mobile student laboratories and its interface with science in particular.
"We are delighted to help shape the Makermobil and give young people in the region an early impetus for educational paths in the STEM subjects," emphasised Professor Schmidt at the opening.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the STEM Cluster III programme. It is a joint project of the town of Herzberg (Elster), the Bad Belzig-based neuland21 e.V. and the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, which aims to sustainably change and network the educational landscape of southern Brandenburg.
