Two universities, one goal: MUL - CT and BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg sign cooperation agreement
This is a milestone on the path to joint excellence in research, science and teaching. The already good, cooperative collaboration is now official, is described in comprehensive detail in the joint projects and will provide the partners with a framework for their joint work and for shaping the future of science in Cottbus and Lusatia. The co-operation partners will work together to expand Cottbus as a science and research location, make the offerings for students and teachers attractive and thus provide decisive impetus on the path to the future.
Prof. Dr mult. Eckhard Nagel, Director of Health Care at the Medical University of Lusatia - Carl Thiem (MUL - CT): "The close and trusting cooperation between the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg and the Medical University of Lusatia - Carl Thiem is the foundation for the central position of the educational and scientific programmes in the structural change. We are thus assuming the responsibility assigned to us for a social process that represents a particular challenge for the people in the region. For future generations, this will open up personal development opportunities that cover the entire spectrum of modern life, giving their parents and grandparents the security we all need to work towards a successful future. The fact that universities and their institutions have to undergo structural change themselves in the process is something we experience first-hand here in Cottbus in our joint activities: openness, equality, fairness, reliability and trust characterise this cooperation and thus also the institutions that carry it out."
Prof. Dr Gesine Grande, President of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg: "Today we are sending out an important signal for Cottbus as a university location. Both universities, with their complementary profiles, will continue to research, teach and have an impact on society together in the future. As BTU, we are contributing the scientific expertise from our profile lines as well as networks and administrative know-how to the cooperation. We support MUL in establishing study programmes and key research areas in record time. Together, we are committed to creating a vibrant and cosmopolitan university city of Cottbus. This benefits our universities and, above all, the people from the region - this is how successful transformation works."
State Secretary for Science Tobias Dünow (Ministry of Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg): "The BTU with its scientific expertise, its application-oriented research and its numerous collaborations has long been the driving force behind structural change in Lusatia. And MUL - CT with its planned development of modern, digital and local healthcare will be the heart of the Lusatia Health Model Region. Two strong universities that stand for innovation and future opportunities - and are a perfect match. That is why we have explicitly enshrined the cooperation between the two universities in the University Medicine Act. We have established the Medical University in a record time of just under four years, from the initial concept to its foundation, and the first students will start next year. I am very pleased that we can continue at this fast pace. A big thank you to the local players!"
The cooperation between BTU and MUL covers the areas of teaching, research and transfer and also includes the provision of infrastructure and centralised services. The partners intend to contribute their research strengths - in particular in the areas of health systems research and digitalisation of the healthcare system - to joint research activities.
Concrete measures from the cooperation agreement include using data rooms and equipment for research projects, funding young scientists through joint doctoral studies and publications and cooperating closely in medical training. In addition, scientific results are to be achieved through joint patent applications and their utilisation and transferred into practice.
The agreement is valid for an indefinite period.
