BTU is a partner in the Innovatorium Lausitz (ILAU) skilled labour project

BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is a partner in the Innovatorium Lausitz (ILAU) skilled labour project at Schwarze Pumpe Industrial Park. Together with the ISP special-purpose association, the BTU wants to develop the NEXUS-HUB - the centrepiece of the ILAU, which aims to qualify and integrate skilled workers from Germany and abroad and retain them in the region in the long term.

The Schwarze Pumpe Industrial Park (ISP) wants to grow - and the region urgently needs skilled labour to do so. Around 5,000 people currently work in the almost 110 companies, and this number is set to increase in the future. With a focus on green technologies and sustainable concepts, the Innovatorium Lausitz (ILAU) is being launched directly at the industrial park in order to attract, train and integrate skilled workers in the long term.

The Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus-Senftenberg is now contributing its expertise. Prof. Dr Michael Hübner, Vice President for Research and Transfer at BTU, signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) together with Christine Herntier, Chairman of the ISP Association, and Petra Axel, Manager of the ISP Association. The aim is for BTU to play an active role in the NEXUS-HUB, the organisational and social hub of the Innovatorium. This is where skilled workers from Germany and abroad are supported, qualified and retained in Lusatia in the long term.

"Having BTU as a partner opens up new ways of getting students interested in Schwarze Pumpe at an early stage and showing them a wide range of job prospects," emphasises Alexander Scharfenberg, Project Manager at ASG Spremberg GmbH. The idea of setting up a personnel service provider specifically for the targeted placement of skilled labour is also widely supported.

The investment volume for the ILAU is estimated at up to 60 million euros. The centrepiece is an approximately ten-storey tower which, in addition to the NEXUS HUB, also offers rooms for health services, training and further education as well as temporary accommodation close to the industrial park.

With the Innovatorium Lausitz and the BTU as partners, a pioneering centre for skilled workers in Lusatia is being created.
