BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and Lausitz Science Park open exhibition at the Newton Flight Academy Brandenburg
In addition to flight simulators and laboratories, anyone interested can now immerse themselves in an interactive research environment with virtual tours and find out what solutions for #GlobalChallenges are being researched at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.
The Lusatia Science Park presents itself as an umbrella for the BTU's structural change projects, bringing together scientific and economic expertise. In the exhibition, visitors can take a close look at the former Cottbus-Nord airfield, where the center of the LSP is to be built, and become active as Urban Planners themselves.
The exhibition section of the Center for Hybrid Electric Systems Cottbus (chesco) invites visitors to discover the research behind hybrid-electric drives. It explains what hybrid-electric means and why it is necessary to research alternative propulsion systems. The objects are used to illustrate the various fields of research involved in the complex drive systems. In addition to a hybrid-electric aircraft model, there is a gas turbine with an integrated electric motor to see and fun facts about hydrogen to discover.
At the Energy Gaming Station of the Cottbus Energy Innovation Center, future Energy Champions can use VR goggles to explore a world of tomorrow in various scenarios in which energy is only produced sustainably. Those who then crack the tricky quiz questions on renewable energies on the tablet will not only be awarded the title of Energy Champion, but will also receive a sweet surprise to take home (assembly will take place shortly).
At the SpreeTec neXt exhibit, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of innovative manufacturing technologies and discover how scientists transform advanced materials into precise components using state-of-the-art machines.
At colab - creative.open.lab, visitors can find out more about the hands-on area and the high-end workshops. If you want to try out innovative technology and get to know the processing and handling of different materials (wood, sheet metal, metal, plastic) with the support of experts, this is the place for you. The colab offers founders a network and a wealth of technical possibilities for prototyping.
The BTU Founders' Service team is participating in the exhibition with a project that focuses on inspiring and empowering young minds in Lusatia to actively shape the future of their region with creative solutions and ideas. These serve as a starting point for students and those interested in founding a company at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg to develop and implement concrete solutions.
As part of the interactive exhibition, the BTU College offers insights into the courses on offer at BTU. Visitors can experience the study programs up close and get a realistic picture of the study conditions with VR glasses.
Prof. Dr. Peer Schmidt, BTU Vice President for Teaching: "Lusatia is changing. In order to give young people guidance, our exhibition shows what we are researching and how they can help shape their future in the region by studying. With our courses, such as the Trial and Orientation Studies Programmes, we invite pupils to get a taste of the university and attend lectures in their favorite subject. Together with the Newton Flight Academy Brandenburg, BTU is also planning a joint teaching module. The Newton Flight Academy is another important building block in the STEM promotion of young people - together with the DLR SchoolLab and the BTU's student laboratories, it makes Cottbus a Science Lab City. I am very pleased about the close cooperation."
Dr. Markus Schwenke, Project Manager Lausitz Science Park: "With the exhibition, we are bringing the future innovation landscape of the Lausitz Science Park even closer to the people of Lusatia, school pupils and future students. This exhibition shows in concrete terms which research topics, companies and institutes will one day find their home in the science and technology park. It becomes clear how important sufficient space and the necessary infrastructure are for the establishment of research institutions and commercial enterprises."
Heiko Witte, Manager of CHESCO GmbH: "I am delighted that we have been able to add an attraction to the Newton Flight Academy Brandenburg so soon after its opening. This not only enriches our educational offering, but is also a great expression of the close links between research, development, business and education at this dynamic location."
A visit to the permanent exhibition is free of charge and possible during the opening hours of the NFAB: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 14:30 to 17:00 as well as by prior arrangement at: T +49 (0) 151 721 83 83 0 or by e-mail at newton(at)chesco.de.
About the Newton Flight Academy Brandenburg
Since July 1, 2024, the Newton Flight Academy in Cottbus' Stadtforum K (formerly Galeria Kaufhof) has been offering a unique learning experience specifically designed for STEM enthusiasts. This initiative is part of a global network with locations in cities such as Rome and Tokyo and was developed in collaboration with FIRST Scandinavia and Boeing. In addition to a modern classroom, the academy offers three full-motion flight simulators and laboratories that invite independent research. The Newton Flight Academy is primarily aimed at school classes, but also offers programs for preschool children. The offer is free of charge for pupils. Anyone else who would like to experience a private flying lesson in the simulators is also welcome. The Newton Flight Academy is a project of CHESCO GmbH.
