Sorbian/Wendish art in Cottbus/Chóśebuz

Guided tour through the city centre of Cottbus/Chóśebuz on the subject of Sorbian/Wendish art in public spaces. As part of the travelling exhibition "70 Jahre Kunst am Bau in Deutschland".

The city of Cottbus/Chóśebuz has a unique collection of Sorbian/Wendish art in public spaces. Whether mosaics, sculptures, murals or fountains with Sorbian/Wendish motifs - this architectural heritage of the city is visible to everyone and yet is often barely recognised. A large part of it dates from the 1970s and 1980s and is a listed building. However, several works have also disappeared from the cityscape since 1989 - through theft, demolition or overbuilding.

During the tour, we will present selected works in the city centre and would like to discuss the visibility, preservation and promotion of Sorbian/Wendish art in public spaces in the context of sustainable and minority-sensitive urban development.
