Science Slam 2025: Three BTU researchers slam at the Finsterwalder Brauhaus on 6 June
Three researchers from BTU Cottbus-Senftenber will be performing at the 4th Brandenburg Science Slam on Friday, 6 June 2025, at the Finsterwalder Brauhaus. Dr Marten Klein, junior research group leader of the Young Investigator Group (YIG) and research assistant at the Chair of Numerical Flow and Gas Dynamics, will be among those taking part in the fun competition between the sciences. He will be slamming on the topic of "Jumping in the water - what stair steps have to do with energy storage".
Marie Tallarek, academic assistant at the Chair of Health Sciences, will also be on stage to provide insights into "When the plan has gaps: how midwives think and negotiate self-determined birth". And Mareike Herold, research associate at the Institute for Heritage Management (IHM), a BTU spin-off, will be asking the question: "Open-cast mining landscape as a world heritage site?"
More women than ever before: the female gender is strongly represented!
In addition to the two BTU candidates, two other women are also taking part in Finsterwalde. Dina Khukhunaishvili from the University of Potsdam will slam about "'I love you - and your IBAN' - How cheats enchant hearts", Victoria Schemenz from the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces will introduce bone research. Her presentation deals in an entertaining way with the question: "What holds bones together at their core and makes them stable and flexible at the same time". The sixth slammer, Sebastian Schulzev from the Leibniz-Institute for Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics, will be presenting "Wafer bonding: A story about food and superheroes" will pique curiosity.
Admission is free. However, registration is requested as the event is likely to be fully booked.

Background to the Science Slam
The special thing about the Science Slam is that it is a special format of science communication in which the aim is to make a topic understandable to a wide audience in as entertaining a way as possible in a short space of time. The speakers only have ten minutes to do this. The winner is decided by the audience using score cards.
The Science Slam was first launched in 2021 by Brandenburg's Science Minister Manja Schüle. Since then, this edutainment format has enjoyed great popularity. The presence points in the state of Brandenburg organise it at their respective locations. The two BTU-managed presence centres in Finsterwalde and Spremberg are hosting the Science Slam on Fridays, 6 and 27 June 2025.
