Main Objectives

Historic and current trends in Ho Chi Minh City are causing the growth of motorised traffic, congestion as well as air pollution. As a result, the overall urban transport system is becoming less energy efficient and GHGemissions are increasing. Politicians and planners have reacted with the development of an Urban Transport Master Plan for Ho Chi Minh City (JICA et al. 2004). The spatial structure and the transport system are closely interrelated, together they constitute the urban system with changes in one part of the urban system cause a recursive feedback loop that produces effect in the other part. The objective of this module is to assess the potential of different urban development and transport strategies to increase energy efficiency and reduce GHG-emissions.
