Calvin de Jesus has been working as a research assistant at the Chair of Economics, specializing in macroeconomics, at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg since September 2026. In this role, he conducts research in Cluster 1, “Revitalizing Regional Innovation Systems in Peripheral Regions,” as part of the BMFTR-funded project “Center for Structural Change and Regional Development” (ZeStuR).

He first completed his bachelor’s degree in Geography (B.Sc.) at the University of Vienna from 2020 to 2023, specializing in human geography. Building on this, he went on to earn his master’s degree in “Geography: Global Change and Sustainability” (M.Sc.) with a focus on economic geography, graduating with honors in 2026.

In his master’s thesis, he examined the agency of regional actors in the Italian region of Piedmont. The central question was how these actors drive or block the restructuring of automotive-specific regional innovation system configurations in response to industrial decline. The results of the master’s thesis were published in the academic journal *European Planning Studies*.
