POSTGRADUATE COURSE IN ADVANCED PERFOMANCE GUITAR SOLO | GUITAR DUO

The postgraduate course of study in artistic training is designed to enable students – who already hold a degree – to achieve a competitive level of concert performance. The artistic training course can be taken either as a soloist or as a guitar duo.

As well as instruction in the major subject, two accompanying classes (on the methodology of concert literature, plus a seminar on interpretation) are designed to prepare students for teaching roles at university level.

Because the accompanying classes are taught as block seminars and instruction in the artistic major subject is arranged by individual appointment, it is not necessary for students to live nearby. Examinations are geared to the requirements of international competitions.

The Guitar Solo course requires two solo recitals, after the 2nd and 4th semesters respectively, and an orchestral examination after the 3rd semester.
The concert programme at the end of the 2nd semester must consist of representative works from different epochs, plus two of the Villa-Lobos études – at least one must be of Nos. 2,3,7,10.
The concert programme at the end of the 4th semester can be freely chosen without any restriction, in order to support the development of a personal artistic profile.
For the orchestral examination, students must perform a complete concert for guitar and orchestra, or another work for guitar and orchestra which places comparable demands on the player.
During their studies, students must also prepare a chamber music piece and perform it in public.

The Guitar Duo course requires two duo recitals after the 2nd and 4th semesters respectively.
The concert programme at the end of the 2nd semester must consist of representative works from different epochs, the concert programme for the 4th semester can be chosen freely, to also enable guitar duos to develop an artistic profile of their own.
Furthermore, duos must give an examination concert performance of a work which they have arranged themselves.
