Going abroad with BTU

BTU students have a wide range of opportunities to study abroad during their studies. Whether it's a compulsory semester, a freely chosen stay abroad, a thesis, a research stay, or participation in language courses, internships, or summer schools. There are various exchange programmes and funding opportunities to choose from.

Anyone considering spending time abroad is welcome to contact the International Relations Office team at an early stage. Here you will receive important tips and advice for planning your stay abroad.

Semester abroad at BTU partner universities in the academic year 2026/27

Call for applications for a study-related stay at a BTU partner university abroad in the 2026/27 academic year

As a BTU student, you have access to exchange places at over 200 partner universities in Europe and beyond.

  • Apply between 28 November 2025 and 1 February 2026 for an exchange place in the 2026/2027 academic year (winter semester 2026/27, summer semester 2027) via our online application portal.
  • Detailed information can be found on our website under ERASMUS+ EU and ERASMUS+ Non-EU as well as STUDEXA.
  • You are also welcome to attend our information event on studying abroad – on 27 November 2025 at 5:30 p.m. in Lecture Hall A in the ZHG in German and on 10 December 2025 at 9:15 a.m. in Seminar Room 3 in the ZHG in English.

Opportunities for students: With Fulbright on the way to a US partner university

Until 27 January 2026, German students who would like to study in the USA in 2026/2027 as part of a German-American university partnership programme can apply to Fulbright Germany for a travel grant. The grant includes funding for travel expenses with a lump sum of €2,000, participation in the Welcome Weekend from 17 to 19 April 2026 in Berlin, and admission to the international network of Fulbright scholars and alumni. Fulbright Germany invites you to an online information session on 11 December 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. to learn more about the programme and the application process. Please register here

Moodle course on studying abroad

We provide you with all essential information and a lot first hand insights related to studying abroad in a Moodle course.

You will not only receive valuable information and inspiration for your very own personal stay abroad, but also announcements of events, experience exchanges and webinars. All relevant information on our application campaign for the academic year 2025/26 will also be made available on Moodle. We look forward to accompanying you on your adventure abroad.
