"The new statutes for safeguarding good scientific practice at BTU: What changes will there be for everyday research?"
With the new "Statutes for Safeguarding Good Research Practice and for Dealing with Allegations of Research Misconduct at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg", the BTU has implemented the code of conduct "Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Research Practice" of the German Research Foundation (DFG) in a legally binding manner (publication in the BTU's official gazette, English translation to follow). Appropriate standards for scientific work are now described in more detail than before and current developments of recent years, particularly those caused by digital transformation and changes in the publication system, are addressed. In addition, the new statutes also reflect aspects of personnel development, the supervision of young researchers and the involvement of research support staff, which are important for successful scientific work. Reference is also made to the critical reflection on ethical aspects of research projects.
After a brief introduction to the topic, the new statutes of the BTU are presented, significant changes are discussed and reference is made to further information from the BTU and third-party funding organisations. Examples of scientific misconduct are also discussed. In addition, the use of generative AI models (e.g. ChatGPT) in the context of scientific work will be addressed. Afterwards there will be sufficient time for questions and discussions.
