BTU Advent calendar: Door 19
Jens Richter, Master student
How did you celebrate Christmas last year, and what are your plans for this year?
Last year I celebrated Christmas together with my family and relatives. Due to the current situation, this year this will unfortunately only be possible in the smallest family circle.
What is your personal favorite pastry during the Christmas season?
My favorite is Spekulatius, but I also like gingerbread cookies.
You recently received an award for your bachelor's thesis on the partial automation of filling systems in a large bakery. Among other things, the reason given for the award highlights your preferred solution for the hygienic transport of baked goods. Would you please briefly describe this solution?
The filling systems, which are still manually operated in actual operation, were repositioned for target operation in such a way that the automation unit can operate several systems alternately, making the acquisition of such a unit much more profitable. For this purpose, all technical and organizational measures that would be necessary for a changeover to semi-automatic operation were also worked out.
What do you do with the prize money?
I use the prize money to pay for the jacket I wore at the award ceremony. The rest is not spent directly, but saved.
Julia Genßler, master's student until 2020 and best MINT student 2019
How do you spend Christmas?
Due to the current situation, it is not yet certain how and where I will spend Christmas. I will probably spend a few quiet hours with my partner at his or my parents' house and do what probably everyone will do: Eating.
What are you currently working on?
I am currently working my way into my new job as a research assistant at the TU Berlin. I am lucky enough to be able to continue working in aeronautics despite the tense situation and have been employed at TUB for a month (Oct. 19, 2020) in engine acoustics (in cooperation with DLR).
What does Christmas mean to you?
Christmas is often the time of the year for me to come to rest and visit my family. My wish for everyone, regardless of faith or religion, is that they can find some peace on these days and reflect on the positive things.
