BTU Advent calendar: Door 6

The native Moroccan and Cyber Security student Zineb Alaoui Selsouli does not actually celebrate Christmas. This year's Soroptimist award winner experienced her first Christmas in 2018 - in Cottbus. She has a special message for this year.

Zineb Alaoui Selsouli, Student in the international master program Cyber Security

You are studying Cyber Security at the BTU. How did you experience the summer semester in online teaching?

Last semester, I didn't have the opportunity to go through as many online classes since I have had finished all my course modules by that time. However, I took one course for my interest, where I used the online platform.  I believe it takes some time to get used to any new teaching style since it involves further details that we usually didn't need to consider while attending onsite, such as connectivity problems, interactivity issues, organization of speech among participants, readability of the materials, etc. But I think we have become more familiar with the situation in the current semester. I hope the condition will be better soon, and we will get back to our classroom again.

You come from Morocco. How do you perceive Christmas customs in Germany?

In December 2018, I had the chance to spend Christmas here, and for the first time in my life, I have experienced the customs and the spirit of Christmas in Germany. I was fascinated to see how the streets were decorated and how the enjoyment and happiness among loved ones were going on all over the city. It was my pleasure to find myself as a part of the Christmas celebration.

What does Christmas mean to you?

Only few Christian communities live in Morocco. Therefore, we do not have such kind of opportunity to celebrate Christmas. This year again, I will try to room around in Cottbus to witness the celebration of Christmas, maintaining social distances and hygiene precautions.

As you all know, this year's Christmas will be a different Christmas than the previous years we celebrated all the time. Since this year's Christmas, we are in dire need of utmost blessings from the Almighty.

We have never seen such challenges in our lives, and our generation will be the most experienced and paragon-generation, rebuilding this current gloomy world more livable than before. We have suffered a lot, and we are still lamenting without perceiving when it will be an end.

We have lost our loved ones, and we have grieved a lot, but at the same time, we learned how humanity should be united and working hand to hand and how we should keep our chin's up to make this beautiful world an ideal place for the future generation. Finally, let's hope this new year will bring us a new enthusiasm uniting us for greater fulfillment in our life.
