Federal Minister Carsten Schneider visits the BTU

The fact that structural change in Lusatia and getting more East Germans into management positions are important concerns for him has already been made clear several times by Minister of State Carsten Schneider, the Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Germany - most recently during his visit to the BTU on March 1, 2022.

On the occasion of the first conference on infrastructure development in the Lusatian and Central German coalfields, he also visited Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus-Senftenberg to exchange views on both topics with BTU President Prof. Dr. Gesine Grande.

"Universities are enormously important contacts for me as the nucleus of social developments, and I am very pleased to get to know such an exciting institution as the BTU right at the beginning of my work as a representative to the East and to enter into conversation with the only female university president in eastern Germany", Schneider said.

In an exchange with Gesine Grande, he learned about the BTU's historical and future role as a place of transformation and was impressed by the major structural change projects, for which some 500 million euros have been earmarked and which will create thousands of additional jobs over the next few years. "We see structural change as an enormous opportunity to create a vibrant and exciting science location here and to drive economic and regional development in Lusatia. For this, we need courage and committed comrades-in-arms who want to shape the future with us," explained Gesine Grande and invited the East German representative to get a better picture of the science campus during a future visit.
