Call for nominations for the BTU Teaching Award 2021 - Nominations are open until April 1, 2022.

With the teaching award, the BTU honors modules and instructors who show particular commitment to teaching-learning processes that take into account the heterogeneity of students under pandemic conditions and thus create new or expanded learning opportunities for students in a didactically sound manner.

Nomination Eligible for nomination are students and teachers of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg as individuals or student bodies and study or teaching committees of the faculties.

The nomination period ends on April 01, 2022.

Modules from the summer semester 2021 or the winter semester 2021/22 can be nominated. Individual courses cannot be nominated, nor can teaching staff without naming a specific module. All members of the current teaching award jury are also excluded from submitting their own applications.

The prize is endowed with 5,000 €.

Documents to be submitted In addition to information on the module and the persons, the proposals must be accompanied by a meaningful justification.

  • Name of the module,
  • Name of the teacher(s),
  • semester in which the module (last) took place,
  • module description and
  • Meaningful Rationale: What is special about this module? Why does the module deserve the BTU teaching award? (see also the criteria below).

Please submit the proposals using the completed form (which can be found on the Teaching Award website) to the Teaching and Studies Department, Quality Management Studies and Teaching Unit by e-mail to lehrpreise@b-tu.de.

Selection procedure After receiving the proposals, the jury will select a maximum of 10 modules, taking into account the formal and qualitative criteria, which will proceed to the next selection round. The respective teachers will be invited to present and explain their concept for the nominated module to the jury at a public university presentation event. This event is expected to take place in June 2022. Subsequently, the jury will select the winning module from the presented modules during the final selection meeting.

Criteria

In addition to the formal criteria (see above: nomination and documents to be submitted), the following qualitative criteria are of particular importance in the evaluation by the jury (consisting of the Vice President for Studies and Teaching, lecturers and students):

  • The module is characterized overall by a didactically meaningful design and is integrated precisely into the study program concept.

The teaching-learning forms used support the students' acquisition of competencies in a special way, e. g:

  • learning situations are varied and enable a flexible arrangement of learning times
  • by using the learning platform (clearly structured, up-to-date)
  • attention was paid to regular feedback and learning success feedback.

For example, the following were used:

  • Teaching/learning formats to strengthen communication and interaction among students,
  • Teaching/learning formats to strengthen the communication and interaction of the teachers with the students,
  • special online resources for self-learning units.
  • Different study and learning types are addressed in the module. The individual learning process is taken into account. Both high-achieving students and breadth of students are encouraged.

In addition, gender and diversity aspects are taken into account (e.g. with regard to language use, image design, type of case studies, type of question types).

The teaching award is intended to make visible and appreciate what has been created and, among other things, serve as inspiration and a template for other modules.

All information can also be found on the Teaching Award website.
