Science is fun!

Successful kick-off of the 1st Brandenburg Science Slam at the BTU's Spremberg and Finsterwalde locations

Eleven young scientists from various Brandenburg science institutions presented their research work in a very entertaining way on Friday, May 13, 2022. Johanna Kusnigk from the University of Potsdam and Dr. Anton Evdokimov from the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg were the best slammers at the first Brandenburg Science Slam at the BTU's Spremberg and Finsterwalde locations. Congratulations!

From the BTU participated in the 1st Brandenburg Science Slam in Spremberg: Dr. rer. nat. Marten Klein, Katharina Noatschk. Outside the competition was Stefan A. Uhlich with a general contribution to science. In Finsterwalde, in addition to the eventual winner, the research assistant from the Chair of Joining and Welding Technology, Dr.-Ing. Anton Evdokimov also participated: Thomas Hitziger and Prof. Dr. Juliane Noack Napoles from BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.

In full halls - in the Spremberger Gasthaus zur Post and in the Brauhaus in Finsterwalde - about 120 people had a very enjoyable and at the same time interesting evening. The audience of all ages enjoyed entertaining and humorously presented lectures. Sometimes this amounted to a small crash course in molecular biology or solid state physics. However, the audience was always very enthusiastic about how vividly the young scientists presented their work. The fact that they were also able to brush up on their school knowledge along the way or gain insight into highly complex issues such as cancer research - that was a great thing. "A great format, I learned more in this hour than in my entire time at school!" one of the visitors expressed his enthusiasm.

At the same time, this competition also took place in the five other presence sites in Luckenwalde, Fürstenwalde, Oranienburg, Schwedt and Neuruppin, so that scientists throughout Brandenburg presented themselves to the interested public.

Overall, this kick-off gives hope that the scientific institutions in the state of Brandenburg will come more often in this way to the regions beyond the state capital and medium-sized centers.
